Master Bedroom Closet Trends

As master suites have gotten larger, so have master closets. Gone are the days of a small, reach-in closet.  Today’s master closets are about spacious organization and no more fighting over clothing space.

Here are some of the latest trends:

Color Outside the Lines

As with the rest of the house, monochromatic closets are being replaced by mixing and matching finishes.  Doors and drawer faces reflect different colors and finishes.  Also, island counter tops are using the same effect.  drawer faces and doors now come in different colors and finishes. And while homeowners used to paint an accent wall, I’m seeing countertops being used for the same effect.

Feel the Texture

New finishes with a texture look more consistent with those of real wood.  Many designs also incorporate contrasting colors.  Combining texture with smooth or glossy drawer faces is a way to add a modern touch and elegance.

Light it Up

LED lighting placed in trim and drawers or doors that you open create accent lighting in locations that can be often be dark so clothing items are hard to see.  Adding wireless remotes and motion-activated lighting is a trend that will continue to grow.

Accessories

Brass accessories, that is. For years, my wife preferred white gold and silver when making her fashion choices, but as of late, she wears mainly gold. And with the trend rising in both the tech and fashion industries, many requests for closet designs now include brass accessories and hardware.

Double the Fun

Smaller living spaces and multi-generational houses require top-notch organizational systems and flexible rooms. A bedroom needs to double as a living room – possibly even as a dining room, too. This is why Murphy beds, made accessible and affordable by the closet industry, are enjoying a resurgence. In small urban housing, combining two rooms into one is the most affordable way to add square footage to your home.

While features wanted in a master closet may change over time, the need for an organized space will never change.  As one customer said recently, “ For the first time in my life I’m organized, a bit trendy, and have the closet of my dreams!”   Yes, dreams really do come true.
